RESTAURANT

Nestled beneath the canopy of majestic 100-year-old mango trees, our restaurant offers a tranquil escape, where the shade and beauty of nature enhance your dining experience.

The restaurant is visited by individual groups, independent travelers, tour groups after exploring Sierra Negra and other sites, and, of course, guests staying at the campsite.

To ensure we provide you with the best possible experience, we kindly ask that guests not staying at the campsite call ahead to make a reservation. Also, to ensure a personalised experience, we would love to know the number of guests, any special preferences, dietary restrictions, or allergies in advance.

Being an eco-lodge committed to minimising our environmental footprint, this will also help us reducere food waste by ensuring we only prepare what is needed.

Authentic flavours of Isabela, crafted by Sonia

Sonia, the heart of the lodge’s kitchen, has been delighting guests with her delicious, yet simple and honest home-cooked meals for 14 years. Born and raised on Isla Isabela, Sonia’s life is deeply rooted in the island’s flavours and traditions. As the life partner of Michuy, the owner of Campo Duro, and mother of five children, her connection to the land and community is integral to everything she does.

Her culinary journey began with her mother, who taught her to cook with fresh, local ingredients, and Sonias’ kitchen is still infused with those island traditions. Over the years, Sonia has also learned from Michuy, who hails from the mainland, incorporating his techniques and flavours into her own recipes. This fusion of traditional island cooking and mainland influences makes every meal uniquely delicious.

Sonia takes great pride in preparing meals that are not only delicious but also visually appealing, though simple and honest. Using vibrant herbs and fresh garnishes, her dishes offer guests a true taste of the island’s natural flavours.

Organic and locally grown

At Campo Duro, we offer a menu that is both delicious and sustainable. We serve only locally and organically grown fruits, vegetable, eggs, and chicken. To minimise our environmental impact, we serve fish and shrimp are serves on occasion only as an alternative to our vegetarian dishes or chicken, or if guests stay for longer periods.

Almost entirely self-sufficient, we source most of our ingredients directly from our own garden and and land, ensuring fresh, flavourful dishes while supporting local ecosystems.

Our famous oven-roasted chicken

Our signature oven-roasted chicken is organically farmed and prepared in our unique tortoise-shaped lava stone oven. The oven is pre-heated with wood from the guava tree, an invasive species, the Islands struggle to eradicate.. This not only helps eliminate the guava, but also infuses the chicken with an incredible aroma from the wood.

The combination of flavourful, free-range chicken – fed on a variety of plants, corn, and insects – fresh herbs from our garden, and the distinct fragrance of guava wood and lava stone, created a dish that is both sustainable and utterly delicious.

Fresh fruit juices and coconuts

Seasonal, fresh fruit juices are a refreshing treat, mostly made from the wide variety of fruits grown right here on our land. We cultivate a rich selection of fruit trees, including mango, papaya, passion fruit, banana, plantain, guava, chirimoya, sour sop, orange, lime, grocella, mulberry, rose-apples, and a lot of coconut palms.
